The Story is set in the period during the Japanese invasion of China in the 1930’s. A Chinese traitor Tung (Jackson Lou) working within the puppet state of Manchukuo, gets involved in an affair with the mistress of a military officer. Their affair is exposed and in the confusion, Tung kills the officer and has to flee from the Japanese.

In the desolate arid lands, his wife is saved by Iron Sister (Shu Qi), a member of guerrillas from a nearby hunting village, whom has an affair later with Tung. The humble villagers are very simple minded and only wished to drive out the Japanese. They fall easy prey, as Tung disguises his real identity and continues his secret contacts with his collaborators. One by one, the villagers become victims of Tung’s ploy. Accidentally his plot is discovered by Iron Sister and they engage in a battle of life and death.
